Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with a friend’s daughter, rw-lunacat. She is an artist who specializes in Cats at the moment, and it’s exciting to see her style develop over time. :) Anyway - I asked her if she had ever played with gradients in her art. She said that she had not. So I spent a little while teaching her how to play with concepts of using line-art as masks, and some basic gradient usage and manipulation. And then we added some Space. The result of that play ended up taking this line-art design of hers, and transforming it into this awesome Space Kitty.
Next up, I asked her if she had ever thought of what a gradient could do if it were animated. She said that she had not, but that she was interested. So I started with a blank blend file and built my previous “Hawt Gradients” design with her, explaining each step as I worked. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a pair of eyes so wide. As we got closer to the completion of the design, someone else in the room asked “What if we make her Kitty picture animate like that?” This design is the result of her line-art + my animation.
