This was design number 9 of 12 in my exhibit at UMOCA. If you feel up to it, go ahead and put on Infected Mushroom’s track “Elation Station” while you stare into this for a while. Elation Station is one of my favorite tracks of all time, and it feels like especially fitting background music for this design.

A few months ago, I wrote a program in Processing that generated a flat animation where small red nodes moved around and formed network connections with a series of white nodes which held still yet grew and shrank as the red nodes approached them. That was great to start off with, but I grew interested with the possibilities of introducing that concept into the 3rd dimension, and I liked the idea of… adding more colors. I could never have expected this particular color mix as the output when I started, but through exploring my options in post processing, it was clear that this was the perfect stopping point.

Did you know that fellow GIF artist Angular Geometry has a month long exhibit of his own opening at the Utah Museum Of Contemporary Art? His show opens this Friday, November 14th, from 7PM to 9PM, and he’ll be there in person to meet and greet anyone who walks in the front doors. Seriously, his exhibit space is right there in the front lobby. You can’t miss it. I’ll be there hanging out as well, so come on down and say hello! :)

This GIF is one in a set named “Circular Associations”, and one of two designs in this set which was created for my exhibition at the Utah Museum Of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) which ran from September 19th until October 16th, 2014.
